Submontium

A first-person strategic RPG set in early 17th-century Bohemia. You begin in the spa town of Karlovy Vary, working your way from apprentice to master of a hidden alchemical trade. Submontium focuses on systems: alchemical procedures, resource management, and the economy of a real city under political and religious pressure. There is no combat. Progress comes from knowledge, negotiation, and the mastery of materials — not from weapons.

Vision

  • Science over confrontation. Alchemy, instruments, furnaces, and field experiments define how you interact with the world. Submontium has no weapons and no combat.
  • Alchemy as a playable system. Procedures, heat, glassware, reactions, and reagents interact in a physically and historically grounded way.
  • A real city as your board. Karlovy Vary’s baths, workshops, and guild houses form a dense, walkable hub shaped by economics and reputation.
  • Pressure instead of power fantasy. Patrons, rival alchemists, shortages, and political forces challenge your plans at every turn.
  • First-person, handcrafted spaces. Laboratories, interiors, and urban environments built with a focus on materiality, light, and authenticity.
  • Historically grounded, not museum-dry. Real 17th-century knowledge and research, adapted into playable systemic design.

About

Submontium Games is a small studio focused on handcrafted visuals and original systemic design. We build with Unreal Engine, Blender, and Mari. The studio is based in the Czech Republic and led by Zdeněk Levý.

Our games put science first: players progress by understanding alchemical and physical principles and applying them inside coherent, reactive worlds.
